Every year the Ministry of Defence spends around £14 billion on goods and services.
Nobody within the UK spends more and nobody can match the range of our requirements. The MOD buys from multinational companies, down to the smallest limited companies and sole traders.
The MOD spends over half of its budget each year on equipment, works and miscellaneous stores and services, ranging from tanks, ships and aircraft, through to tools, clothing, food, domestic products, sports and leisure equipment and window cleaning, and much more besides.
To get the best value for money, the MOD encourages new suppliers of all sizes – including small firms – to compete for defence business.

Change to AOF access on the internet
The internet version of the MOD Acquisition Operating Framework (AOF) is now provided via registered access.
This change applies to AOF access on the internet only; there is no change to AOF access via the Defence Intranet.
This change has arisen as part of the Government's ongoing efficiency drive which includes a web rationalisation programme initiated by the Cabinet Office and led by the Central Office of Information. To access the AOF via the internet, you will now need to submit a username and password. Information on how to register is provided on the website.
