Industry Days

Industry days may be held to engage with the market at an early stage before starting the formal procurement process.  These allow potential suppliers to understand the requirement, to provide feedback to shape the requirement, and may also identify the potential for sub-contracting opportunities.

Upcoming Industry Days

4 SEPTEMBER 2018 – Counter Explosive Ordnance Defence Engagement (CEDE) Industry Briefing

Major General Giles Hill, ACDS DE, will host a CEDE Industry Briefing on 4 September 2018 at the Army Reserve Centre in White City, LONDON W12 7RW.

Aim

To inform Industry of the upcoming opportunity to tender for the provision of services to the Ministry of Defence to run a CEDE office. The office is to deliver increased capacity and coherence to overseas Counter Explosive Ordnance and C-IED Defence Engagement activity, to actively promote UK Defence exports (services and equipment) and to reduce the demand on scarce UK military EOD&S trade groups.

Context

The UK is a world leader in the field of C-EO/C-IED. Currently the MOD receives more requests for assistance for C-EO/C-IED annually than it is currently able to satisfy through the limited number of specialist UK military personnel able to deploy. The establishment of the CEDE office seeks to outsource the functions of developing and maturing opportunities with international partners, the provision of decision support to a governance committee and the commercial functions required to take an approved opportunity through to contract and through-life management. The positive impact of assistance is such that UK involvement can reap significant benefits in terms of improving bilateral relations and improving the UK’s public and international image.

Format

Presenters will brief on the concept of the CEDE office, the functions it will be expected to provide, and the benefits for both HMG and UK Industry. In the afternoon, 20-minute 1:1 sessions will be available to be booked with the CEDE Project Team for closed targeted questioning/clarification.

Attendees

Attendance at this Industry Briefing is by application only. Attendance is subject to approval by the MOD. The event is open to companies who are part of C-IED UK as well as those not currently active in the C-EO/C-IED sphere.

18 September 2018 – INFORMATION WARRIOR 19 Industry Day

Following the success of INFORMATION WARRIOR 18 (IW18), it is the Navy’s intention to conduct INFORMATION WARRIOR 19 (IW19) from 25 March to 11 April 2019.

Aim

The aim of IW19 is to advance the Navy’s capabilities across its four capability areas: Enablers, Information Exploitation (IX), Offensive Information Warfare (Off IW) and Defensive Information Warfare (Def IW).

Intent

To ensure coherence between potential applications and the underpinning network it is intended to develop a virtual Maritime Taskgroup in Portsdown Technology Park (PTP) (and live assets where possible as part of Exercise JOINT WARRIOR 19/1). The architecture will simulate realistic Open Architecture Information Systems that are in development now and are expected to be rolled out across the Fleet over the next few years.

This virtual Taskgroup will consist of a QEC Class, Escorts, Submarines, aircraft and deployed land units. These units will be connected using realistic SATCOM and RF bearers and we intend to have realistic data to simulate normal traffic flow.

From the enabler’s perspective we wish to explore technology that underpins future high-grade messaging, virtualised networks, interoperability with Coalition partners and data transfer techniques to bandwidth-disadvantaged units such as submarines.

Regarding Information Exploitation we wish to further the dissemination of knowledge using geo-spatial data layers, particularly to disadvantaged units. We also wish to explore the use of technology to gauge public perception of RN and Defence activities to enhance influence activities.

Increased coherence of data will be enabled by the NELSON Data Platform being the hosting environment for each virtual and physical platform. This will provide a unified API to access all real-time and historical tactical, operational and platform data, as well as a security framework for application updates.

Artificial Intelligence applications will be trained off historical datasets to better detect, fuse, automate, predict and prioritise across a range of domains. There will be a particular emphasis on the underwater battlespace, engineering support and logistics.

For the further development of maritime cyber resilience capabilities, we will be looking to develop and validate concepts and toolsets which enhance the Navy’s ability to protect, detect, respond and recover to cyber incidents across the virtual Taskgroup platforms and systems.

Industry Day

Industry and academia have developed a lot of technology and applications that can aid our development. To provide an opportunity to discuss potential opportunities for collaboration, an Industry Day will be held through which we will backbrief IW18 and outline our vision for IW19.

The event will take place 1300-1600 on 18 September 2018 in PTP, near Portsmouth. As there is a capacity of 70 persons, we respectfully request one representative only from each organisation.

If you would like to attend please inform QinetiQ at InformationWarrior@qinetiq.com who will be collating attendance and managing the event on behalf of Navy Command. The QinetiQ point of contact for responses is Mrs Sarah Matthews.

Following the launch of the MOD LCST Supplier Manual on this DCO Portal, suppliers will wish to note the intention to hold an Industry Day for the benefit of Suppliers to MOD, on Wednesday 25 July 2018 at Donnington.  The likelihood is that the demonstration will be delivered in Defence Fulfilment Centre 2 and will comprise some static stands and demonstrations which complement the Supplier Manual and reinforce the rationale.  The Industry Day is designed to help Suppliers understand and be compliant with the Supplier Manual.  Interest in, and specific details for, the industry day can be communicated by contacting WO1 Tracey Walker at  DESLDCMO-Ops-Assure-WO1-Don@mod.uk  by close of business on Wednesday 18 July 2018.

12 July 2018 – LAND WARFARE CENTRE, WARMINSTER

81mm Mortar Full Task Trainer Capability Presentation Day

The UK MOD is researching the options available for a full task 81mm mortar training system to enhance the realism of collective training and also individual and detachment skills ab initio. It is envisaged that potential solutions will replicate the operation of all aspects of the mortar platoon from the mortar detachment to the command post and also the Mortar Fire Controller. It is anticipated that it will also enhance evaluation of training with real-time after action reviews and have the existing ability or the development potential to operate with the in-service suite of Tactical Engagement Simulation (TES) Systems and the Indoor Fires Trainer.

Aims of the Day

  1. To demonstrate to Defence that industry has produced mature and viable training solutions of a High Technology Readiness Level.
  2. To assist the internal Defence discussion as to how to train mortars in the future, including more efficient training output.

Organisations are invited to deliver a PowerPoint (or equivalent) presentation and practical demonstration of their products to a captive audience. Any requirements to use specific facilities of the Land Warfare Centre such as Dismounted Close Combat Trainer must be requested in advance.

Any organisation wishing to participate in this Capability Presentation Day should respond to the Army Requirement Manager via Benjamin.cox395@mod.gov.uk by 17:00hrs on 2 July 2018 accompanied by an overview of their products. Please note that we require responses through your business email address only; response by personal email will not be accepted.

Responses should include the names and positions of the proposed attendees. Organisations attending will be limited to a maximum of three representatives; however, if the event is oversubscribed the available places will be limited to two per organisation. The Authority will release an agenda and timings following registration closure. There will be an opportunity for questions. All questions and responses will be recorded and made available to attendees.
